September 11, 2010 - Neuland with Zintangles
Instructor: Kerr Pelto
The Neuland hand was designed by Rudolph Koch originally as a type face that can be adapted to the broad-edged pen. There is pen manipulation, spacing, and all the other things to keep in mind. But this is a hand that anyone can get the feel for in just a few hours. It's an easy hand; fun and free flowing. The first half of the session will be focused on the letterforms. The second half we will delve into the quirky world of Zentangling which has been described as "a structured, contained doodle." We will be Zentangling inside our Neuland letterforms.
October 9, 2010 - Brush Lettering, Fun with Color
Instructor: Dara Linn
Using monoline lettering and a pointed brush marker we will use pressure and release techniques to create letters that are light and playful. Use this lettering to enhance your scrapbook page with a bright title, address an envelope with pizzazz, or make a card for that special person.
November 13, 2010 - Pen written Roman Caps
Instructor: Don King
This will be a hands-on class; with pens, ink and paper; studying the practical techniques of modifying the Roman Capitalis Monumentalis to be compatible with three popular calligraphic hands - Foundational, Italic and Roman Minuscule (Book Hand). The practical application will be preceded by a brief review of classic Roman caps.
February 12, 2011 - Flag book
Instructor: Martha Petty
The flag book is a type of accordion spine book, invented by Hedi Kyle in the 1970's, whose pages fan out away from the spine in both directions. It makes a wonderful noise when the book is opened.
March 12, 2011 History of Calligraphy
Instructor: Adrianne Proctor
Explore calligraphy’s family tree with a look at early western calligraphic hands, when they were in vogue and how they evolved, including a brief “who’s who” of early writing. We will also look at decorative letters and versals.
